Special Spanish Program for Law Enforcement (SSPLE)
Ten Day Beginner/Intermediate – Total Immersion
The concept of Total Immersion Language Instruction is utilized. Students and staff are isolated from the English language environment during the ten days of the course. Upon completion, all students effectively communicate in five tenses, conduct a felony car stop, a one-hour field interview, and perform the execution of a warrant completely in Spanish. In addition, students greatly increase their awareness of diverse Latin American Cultures.
TERMINAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion each student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to perform the fifteen behavioral objectives of the Five day introductory Immediate Response Spanish Program for Law Enforcement (IRSPLE).
2. Learn and Internalize a proven system of retaining, maintaining, and expanding the skills and information acquired in class.
3. Communicate understandably in the five Spanish tenses that constitute the basis for interpersonal dialogue.
4. Conduct a one-hour Law Enforcement oriented interview with a "potential witness or victim" in Spanish.
5. Perform a felony car stop utilizing proven control expressions and commands that the Hispanic person can understand.
6. Actively participate in the execution of a search/arrest warrant involving Spanish speaking subjects.
7. Effectively perform arrests under diverse situational conditions, utilizing understandable Spanish arrest/control expressions and commands.
8. Read the Miranda Rights in Spanish.
9. Actively participate in cultural events, demonstrating awareness of the critical elements of the Hispanic culture, manipulating the language within the parameters of the five basic tenses.
