Skunk Rabies Map

June 17, 2008

Here is the most recent map of skunk testing for the past two years. Obviously still some gaps in counties where we haven't gotten any skunk submissions during this time, but gives me some confidence that it hasn't become established in the northern Front Range at this point.  There was also a recent press release from New Mexico about several rabid skunk found in Taos County, NM which is a border county essentially due south of the San Luis Valley.   We will post this on our website and update it regularly.  Feel free to distribute the map to any interested parties.   JP

A press release going out today reporting our first rabid raccoon in
45 years and first rabid cat in 23 years.  Also an updated map of rabies surveillance to date.  Note that we have a big gap with few samples submitted from east-central counties  along the Hwy 71 corridor and would encourage some submissions from this area.   Feel free to distribute this information as appropriate.   JP
