Bite Data Collection Survey Letter & Data Agreement

Dear Colorado Association of Animal Control Officer members,

It is amazing how fast a year can go by!  The Coalition for Living Safely with Dogs (CLSD) and CAACO teamed up in 2007-2008 to conduct an innovative Dog Bite Statistics Collection Survey. During this collection period we had 20 agencies participate and have recorded statistics on over 2000 dog bites in the state of Colorado. We would like to recognize and thank the following agencies for their participation in the survey in 2007-2008:

  • Adams County Animal Control
  • Aurora Animal Care Division
  • Basalt Police Department
  • Denver Animal Control
  • Douglas County Animal Services
  • Frederick Police Department
  • Garfield County Animal Control
  • Humane Society of Boulder Valley
  • Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region
  • Jefferson County Animal Control
  • Lafayette Police Department
  • Lakewood Animal Control
  • Longmont Police Department
  • Louisville Police Department
  • Meeker Police Department
  • Montrose Animal Control
  • Town of Parker
  • Pitkin County Animal Safety
  • Pueblo Animal Services
  • Summit County Animal Control

The new and improved 2008-2009 Dog Bite Statistics Collection Survey went live on July 1, 2008.  It is the cumulative desire of everyone involved to get more agencies to participate this year. If you have not participated in the past, we hope that your organization will take this opportunity to join your fellow animal care and control agencies in participating in this Bite Data Collection Survey.

Participation in the survey will afford your agency the following benefits:

  • A professionally prepared report detailing your community’s dog bites by circumstance and breed compiled by Corona Research
  • A professionally prepared report highlighting the aggregated data of all participating agencies, useful in showing statewide trends compiled by Corona Research
  • The opportunity to make your community safer by tracking trends in dog bites and sharing this information with city council and county commission members, particularly at budget time
  • Information that can help your agency provide more tailored education and dog bite prevention to members of your community
  • The satisfaction of knowing that your agency has participated in a one of a kind study tracking comprehensive dog bite data

In addition to the benefits that individual reporting agencies enjoy, the study gives our organizations real time data to support our efforts to make communities in our state safer for animals and people.  Please complete the Data Agreement and return it to the fax or e-mail included with the agreement. The link to the Data Agreement is located at the bottom of this page.

Thanks for your interest and participation in the 2008-2009 Dog Bite Statistics Collection Survey.

Sincerely,

CAACO and CLSD
