The Colorado Humane Society and SPCA (CHS) is headquartered in Denver and is the oldest animal welfare organization in Colorado. CHS is in the process of launching a cruelty investigations program aimed at supporting communities and local law enforcement agencies in under-served rural areas in eastern Colorado.
Reporting to the Chief Cruelty Investigator, the investigator positions will be based in eastern/southern Colorado (exact locations to be determined) and will conduct investigations and promote animal welfare education and awareness to the communities and areas they serve.
Commissioned by the state of Colorado Bureau of Animal Protection, this position serves as the law enforcement representative for the CHS in the prevention of cruelty and neglect to companion animals and equines. Liaison to appropriate local agencies. Conducts investigations and assists in providing animal welfare education/awareness to the general public. Provides quality animal and people care in accordance with the CHS’s mission, goal and management philosophy.
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Thorough working knowledge of local, state, federal laws regarding animals. Knowledge of animal health and well-being. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Demonstrated prior experience dealing with crisis situations and using effective problem solving techniques. Computer literate in a Windows environment. Ability to operate audio and visual equipment effectively and efficiently. Valid Colorado drivers license and good driving record.
Three years experience in investigations or related field. Excellent working knowledge of the criminal justice system. Experience in the care and handling of equine. Bilingual in Spanish.
Ability to obtain State of Colorado certification as cruelty investigator and commission from the Department of Agriculture within 120 days of employment.
