The Community Service Officer (CSO) position is an entry-level position with the Frederick Police Department. The CSO is responsible for investigating municipal and land use code violations and enforcing ordinances regarding junk and abandoned vehicles, weeds, brush and rubbish, animals, signs, and land use, assisting police officers, investigators, and records personnel with tasks that do not require the presence of a commissioned officer.
The duties listed herein are illustrative of the essential duties of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required.
Assists with special projects and performs related work as required.
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work requires frequent driving, reading, verbal, and written communication, and frequent customer contact occasionally with citizens who are angry, upset, or distraught.
This work is performed in all weather including catastrophic conditions such as high wind, tornado, blizzards, flooding, hail, etc. The potential to work in hazardous surroundings exists at all times, including exposure to vehicle traffic, dangerous or threatening people, communicable diseases, hazardous materials, chemicals, etc. This work involves varying degrees of physical responses from sedentary work to very heavy work due to the nature of unpredictable and unforeseeable events that characterize Community Service Officer work. Periodically, the employee is in stressful situations. Must be able to frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 100 pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
