Kelli began her first job in 1992 with Federal Heights and left there in 2000 to serve with Lakewood Animal Control. Kelli's passion for her career goes all the way back to her start in police work in 1984 where she began with Explorer programs an dother various jobs within the police department.

Kelli has dedicated many years to CAACO in positions of President (twice), Treasurer and Secretary and served on the board for 10 years. She was responsible for nominating CAACO for both of the awards it has received from the NACA as State Association of the Year. Kelli was recently named Animal Control Officer of the Year by CAACO.

In nearly 17 years in animal control she has been injured in the line of duty, three times with her shoulder, once to her wrist and one which involved an attack by a chow where Kelli received injuries to her abdomen. Kelli has accredited not being bit a lot to officer safety and learning dog behavior, all credit of CAACO.

Kelli has promoted the welfare and image of ACO’s with her representation of the profession as well as bringing her goodwill along with her networking abilities to further the cause.

Animal Control Tops in Lakewood

Lakewood Police Animal Control Officer Kelli Jelen was named Animal Control Officer of the Year by the Colorado Association of Animal Control Officers. She received the award April 22 for her overall contribution to the profession during the past year and for her dedication and professionalism in working with animals since 1992, city officials said.
